CfBT Education Trust, in close cooperation with the Sabah State Education Department,
and through the support and sponsorship of Hap Seng Consolidated Berhad and HSBC
Bank Malaysia Berhad, commenced the second phase of a 2-year program here in Sabah
to substantially improve the quality of teaching among primary English teachers
in Lahad Datu. A total of 54 teachers were selected to join the programme, which
will run though until the end of the school year at a training centre located
at SK Lahad Datu 2.
PIERS project in Lahad Datu was officially launched by Datuk Edward Lee Ming
Foo, Group Managing Director of Hap Seng Consolidated Berhad; Malachy McAllister,
Managing Director of HSBC Global Banking; Chris Frankland, Senior Manager for
CfBT Malaysia and Hajah Norulashikin of Sabah Education Department on 11 March
2010 at De Leon Hotel in Lahad Datu, Sabah.
During this year’s program, PIERS participants will receive 10 modules of face-to-face
training sessions on weekday afternoons on English proficiency and subject teaching
methodology. The senior trainer will visit and observe the teachers in their classrooms
offering one-on-one training, tutorials, team teaching, guidance, monitoring and
evaluation. |
