The Trading division comprises the fertilizer trading and general trading operations.
The fertilizers trading operations supplies a wide range of fertilizers to oil palm plantations in Malaysia and Indonesia. These include muriate of potash (MOP), ammonium sulphate, rock phosphate, kieserite, ammonium chloride, fused magnesium phosphate and other nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium (NPK) fertilizers.
Fertilizers trading operated through Hap Seng Fertilizers Sdn Bhd (HSF), PT Sasco Indonesia (PTSI) and MML (Shanghai) Trading Co., Ltd (MMLS). These trading entitiesoperate from 14 warehouses - eight in Malaysia and six in Indonesia. MMLS is based in Shanghai, China and trades in fertilizers globally.
Incorporated in 1969 under the name of Sasco Sdn Bhd, Hap Seng Fertilizers’ business was originally in the retail of agricultural supplies, selling fertilizers, agrochemicals and agricultural hardware.
Over the years, its strategic alliance with globally established fertilizer manufacturers as well as investment in expanding its network has propelled Hap Seng Fertilizers into one of the market leaders in the industry.
Already an established player in the East Malaysian fertilizers market, it expanded into the Peninsular Malaysia in 2002, establishing itself as a market leader in the trading and distribution of fertilizers and agrochemicals to the plantation industry in Malaysia.
It expanded regionally into Indonesia in 2004, via its subsidiary PT Sasco Indonesia, to market and distributes fertilizers in Indonesia. It further expanded into China, via its subsidiary Sasco (China) Co., Ltd, in 2016. Today, it handles more than one million metric tonnes of fertilizers and two million litres of agrochemicals per annum.
The general trading operations supplies a diverse portfolio of building material products, which include steel bars, cement, tiles, iron & metal, building chemicals, interior fittings, sanitary wares, aggregates and petroleum products.
General trading operates under Hap Seng Trading (M) Sdn Bhd (HSTM) and services the construction, housing development. Towards the 4th quarter of 2024, HSTM streamlined its product offerings and branch network to improve operating costs efficiency. As a result, HSTM is now operating from two branches in Sabah, namely Kota Kinabalu and Tawau, in the trading of aggregates and petroleum products.
